Welcome to The Better Urban Transit Project

“I would take the bus, BUT its timings are too unpredictable.”
“I would take the metro, BUT the station is not conveniently located.”
“I would go by train, BUT I don’t feel safe there at night.”
We have all had these thoughts or heard someone say it. Almost everyone who lives in cities would agree that they would like to use public transit on a regular basis, but either don’t do it, or don’t prefer it due to a variety of challenges in the way various public transit systems are designed, built, or operated – either in terms of convenience, safety, timings, or accessibility.

But, it is possible to change this. Building better urban transit solutions that are human-centric and thoughtfully designed is possible, and necessary as the only scalable way to reduce congestion, traffic, and time lost in large cities by millions of residents every day. The Better Urban Transit Project is a humble attempt to share observations and ideas to design and improve urban transportation solutions for a better future.

This is a personal project by an ardent public transportation and urban planning enthusiast (me, the author!) based on observations, experiences, anecdotes, and publicly available information, born out of my extensive travels on public transit systems in more than 50 cities across 5 continents. This is not a politically affiliated initiative, nor funded by anyone. It is purely a labour of love with a hope to spark changes for the better.
